A Breath of Fresh Air
Speaking as a woman who has recently gone through major surgery and aggressive treatment for breast cancer, I have found the Brentwood Center of Health to be a Godsend on many levels. There are so many stressors and decisions facing a person going through serious illness that at times its all you can do to get out of bed and put one foot in front of the other. Major illness has an impact not only on the body but also on the mind and spirit. I found that the people at Brentwood Center of Health looked at me as a whole and helped me to heal on many levels.
I came to the Brentwood Center of Health because I was dealing with the onset of stage 2 lymphedema as a result of my cancer treatments. It was a difficult time, being faced not only with the uncertainty of my cancer diagnosis but also with the certainty that lymphedema would now be a permanent part of my life. I was so encouraged to learn that there were treatment options available to me and that my therapist had the expertise to deliver with care and concern. Not only did my PT provide me with the basics of lymphedema management, but she also worked creatively to initiate new methods on the cutting edge of lymphedema treatment. As a result, my lymphedema is now under the best control it has ever been and I have been empowered with the knowledge that I can maintain that control myself.
Even though I came to the Brentwood Center of Health looking only to control my lymphedema, I found so many other needs were met. I got back my strength and flexibility by participating in their Pink Pilates classes specifically for breast cancer survivors. When I developed joint and range of motion loss caused by surgery and medications, my treatments were adjusted to address the new issues. And now, I am thinking about adding acupuncture and Tai Chi/Qi Gong to my plan of care to enhance my immunity and improve my sense of well being.
I have been around and involved with healthcare facilities for many, many years. I know what it feels like to be a number sitting in a waiting room, being afraid you will be so rushed through your appointment that you won't have time to voice questions and concerns. Coming to the Brentwood Center of Health has been like a breath of fresh air. They know your name, they listen to your heart and they give you the strength to achieve your best potential. The Brentwood Center of Health has been an essential partner and friend in my journey to recovery and wellness.

On a scale of one to ten, ten being the highest, I would rate Shawn Tucker, physical therapist, as a 10!
... After I had a complete right shoulder replacement in 2005 by Dr. Ken Yamaguchi at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, he suggested that I go to Shawn Tuckerfor physical therapy. That is the best thing that could have happened.
Shawn Tucker is an outstanding physical therapist who is interested in each client to the extent that one would think she or he is the only client Shawn has. He has excellent qualifications for his profession and continues to update his knowledge and skills for the benefit of his clients. My overall health improved since I started using Brentwood Center of Health as a private physical therapy clinic. I continue my weekly exercise regimen recommended and periodically adjusted by Shawn.
In 2010, when I began experiencing pain in my left shoulder, my primary doctor, Dr. Michael Bartell, valuing the expertise of Shawn Tucker, recommended a number of physical therapy sessions with him. After a few sessions, Shawn recognized that physical therapy was not appropriate for a shoulder which has deteriorated to the extent that it will need to be replaced, so he ceased our sessions. I appreciated his ethical handling of this situation.

"I was referred to Dr. Brian Harasha after experiencing a debilitating injury that haunted me for over three years in my knee from years of weight lifting. Previously I was told that the only remedy left for me was knee replacement. Upon seeing Dr. Harasha and allowing him to treat my symptoms, I can honestly say my knee has healed 90 percent. I do not ever expect it to get 100 percent; however, I am now able to walk longer distances, kick off my injured knee and stand for longer periods of time. Dr. Harasha saved me from knee surgery!
Months later I experienced debilitating back pain. I have always had chronic back pain from arthritic changes and other medical issues, stemming from years of weight lifting. However, this was different. It lasted for hours on end and was so painful that i was unable to lay down, sit, stand or walk. I was up most nights. Cold and heat offered no remedy. Prescription medicine offered no remedy. I was going to call 911; however, I decided to wait it out until the following day, after 2 weeks of pain, to see Dr. Harasha. Once again he performed his "miracle" and without physical adjustment, without laying down, he treated my back 2xs a week and I had instant relief.
My back is currently better by 95 percent, along with my knee. At the age of 71, I am amazed that Dr. Harasha could even provide this kind of relief. He may not be a miracle worker, but he is "MY" miracle worker!"
